My life, just like yours, is full of sin, wayward behavior and active defiance against the God Who created us to love and relate to Him. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that I can do to make up for my rebellion. No amount of good behavior, good works, and regret will get me into heaven.
For all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God
We need to be honest with ourselves and then with God, admitting that we miss His mark of perfection.
If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins
and purify us from all unrighteousness.
I John 1:9
When we admit our sins to God, He forgives us and cleanses us from all the wrong we have done. Then we need to accept the fact that Jesus Christ, God's only perfect Son, died on the cross to pay the price for our sin. Jesus is the One who bridges the gap between us and a wonderful eternity with Him in Heaven.
For God so loved the world
that He gave His only Son
that whosoever believes in Him
shall not perish
but have eternal life.
When we make the decision to get right with God, we know we will sin again after that because that is our nature, but we know Christ has got us covered. We want to do good works as a demonstration of our love, appreciation, and devotion to God, but our good works won't get us into heaven. Only accepting Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf on the cross will get us into heaven.
I pray that my readers know Jesus Christ as their Savior. If you don't, now is the time to change that. All it takes is a simple prayer. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, to save you, and to teach you how live for Him the rest of your days. He will respond immediately to the sincere request. Your salvation will be real and permanent. He will send the Holy Spirit (the Presence of God Himself) to live inside of you as a confirmation that you are saved.
Find a Gospel-teaching church and attend regularly. Pray and read your Bible daily. The rest is up to God and you will see Him at work in your life. You need never worry or wonder if you are going to Heaven. That question will be settled and you will be prepared.
